    gas tank sending unit

I am one that went by the Moss book and got the rubber seal in the wrong place on the sending unit and now am replacing it the right way. I know somewere there is a tool for turning the outer plate into place but short of that, I use a screwdriver to turn it. Question should the prongs be turned to the inlet nipples or just as tight as can be? I am tired of leaking and want this to be my last encounter with the gas tank.

    Re: gas tank sending unit

gerry22, i took out my tank (76 MGB Roadster) about 3 years ago to have it cleaned and when i reinstalled the sending unit i turned the outer plate until it was good and tight.  I suppose it might have turned further but it felt pretty snug and I didn't want to push my luck.  It is about .25 in from the tangs and has not leaked a bit.  I just tried looking it up in the Bentley book and could not find instructions on the tightness.  MG60

See this '"post": http://www.mossmotors.com/forum/forums/thread/22528.aspx.  Unfortunately, I didn't find it until I too had installed the darn thing wrong.  Wish Moss would correct the drawing in the catalog.

We recently changed this. The newly printed Spring/Summer 2012 catalog has this shown correctly.

    Eric,

You're correct, for the Moss Europe site. But look at this! http://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=29001

It's still not right on the Moss USA site.  This is the diagram most us over here see; #24 locking ring needs to be outside of #23 sending unit.

Thanks for the heads up re. the website.  I changed that, but the image mapping (when you scroll over the illustration numbers with your cursor) won't be corrected for a while.
