John,
When it comes right down to it, the true optimal ignition timing changes with the weather, among a host of other factors. Modern fuel injected cars have a jillion sensors which the computer reads to determine fuel timing and quantity, let alone ignition timing for each individual cylinder on each compression stroke.
By theory, everything ...

henryd,
What is meant by ''jacking the chassis until its perfectly level''? As you know, these frames are not very torsionally rigid. Nor, frankly, are they all that strong in fore/aft bend.
When we take a car apart here in the shop, we often weld temporary bracing across the cockpit before removing the body. This is to retain original fit. It's ...

Hey guys,
Actually, Dick, we've moved beyond even the big grinder these days. I've built a jig which allows us to use the mill and get that surface dead nuts on. Unfortunately, blocks and caps vary, or I'd offer this as a mail order service, along with providing my spacer ring and machining of the flywheel to accommodate it, and special ...

Wanna see how much force it takes? Place the pressure plate, face down, with a clutch plate installed, bolted to a flywheel. Now place that flywheel in a shop hydraulic press on top of a heavy duty postage or shipping scale. Then engage the press and see what it takes in pounds just to deflect those fingers inward about 3/8ths of an inch, which is ...

MEMS 3 sounds like the Rover system as used in some Land Rovers and, strangely, Morgans that came to this country around 2000 with the Rover V8 engine. We used to do some of the service for a local dealer who is now defunct, but I recall the MEMS 3 system reader. Who knows? Find a Rover or Morgan dealer and give it a shot.

Hi guys,
These kits are somewhat unfairly maligned. Most of the problems stem from not understanding the criticality of sealing things that were left unsealed with the old ''oil screw'' scheme which must be disabled to install the lip seal. However, as Dick suggests, there is one chronic problem with the location of the seal itself.
I have, as ...

Alfonso et al,
True enough, you can have everything right on the nose and not get instantaneous fire. But, like everything else in life, there is always an explanation. Sometimes the sheer length of the intake runners, combined with things like the engine's need to turn over enough to establish a vacuumn, or the time it takes the fuel pump to ...

Guys,
It is my experience that any of these cars start quite promptly if all ''tune up'' camponents are in prime condition, and if all specifications are exactingly met. This is an annoyance, of course. After all, when was the last time you set the fast idle cam RPM on your SU equipped machine? How old are those ignition wires really?
When I ...

Find the fuel line that delivers fuel from the fuel pump to the carburetters under the hood. Now get a coffee can and a screwdriver that will fit that line. Also bring a length of the same diameter hose with you. Go for a ride, When the problem starts, disconnect the line and attatch the tubing you've brought, to the delivery line from the rear of ...

Great going, davey,
I'm hoping to have something similar when I retire in a few years, but you have it now! Cool!
