damper top off

I wanted to check the oil level in the front dampers. I see no removable plug on top of damper. It differs from the photos in the workshop manual in as much as the top of the damper is cylindrical. What am I missing here?

On my front shocks, the upper section is cylindrical on top of a rectangular section. The fill plug is not on the top (i.e. facing upwards) but on the outside (facing the wheel) of the cylindrical portion.
