Curious about the ram pipe set 11/4". What do they do for the performance of the engine?  If these are installed are you required to rejet or make any other adjustments to the engine?

 I myself have never used ram pipes on SU's before. And I've know that ram pipe where use and still are used on race cars. SU's really need a filter on them if You are driving around town. If You plan to race your car then you will need a lighter weight oil in the dash pots  and You will have to make some adjustments to Your SUs. Hope this helps....

Just received the ram pipes from Moss Motor's, quite disappointed (really cheap looking) they will do the job though, I know they are trying to keep cost down and products available. I will actually be building an aircleaner box to mount these in with washable filters. Trying to figure out how to get cool outside air to the filters to aid performance. What does the light weight oil do for the dashpots I'm currently using Marvel Mystery Oil (About the viscosity of automatic transmission oil). 

Keep using what you're using. The weight of oil in the dashpots is a subject of great conjecture and it must be considered in combination with what needles you're using, what springs you have in the dashpots, what kind of camshaft you have, and your shoe size. I've heard everything from no oil to 90weight, to no springs, to stretch the springs to twice their length. Sure, there is a science to it all, but the fact is there are so many considerations that nobody has the right answer for your particular machine. There...I bet that clears it up !!

You bet. Glad to know that I'm on the right track and have narrowed down what's working for me and my setup.

Could you please help on what the ram pipes should do so that my sit of the pants engineering hopefully will tell me what is working.

948cc, smooth case tranny, bored?, 1.25 SU carbs(spring, jets (not sure)) I purchased the car this way and sorting and tuning to what I think/feel is getting optimum performance as a everyday driver (except rain) of course.

They help straighten out the airflow and help to control reversion.  HOWEVER........the entry radius is critical as well as the length to realize

any real gains...and then its measured in half horsepower increments.     You MUST have a minimum of a diameter from the face of the horn

to the inside outer wall of your airbox.....................short answer.....if it's a street car, save your $$.

Thanks for the answer, half horsepower I'll never feel that or be able to measure. This is a labor of love like all antiques, space could be tight, and proportionately probably won't look right. OH WELL.
