    74 overdrive in a 76?

Will a 74 tranny bolt in to a 76 engine. A guy is selling an MG with lots of new parts and an overdrive tranny for 1600. The car is stripped for paint but is complete with lots of extra parts. Two front and rear ends and overdrive tranny, new interrior panels.Should I take it? Will the over drive work in my car? Here is his ad.

Need a project? I have one for you. I bought this car in the early 90's and have been going to restore it ever since. Now it's time to move again and its time for the MG to find a new home. This car is more than partially stripped, almost ready for media blasting. Very little rust. I have many new parts and tons of used parts, all must go! This car can be made to have wire or disc style wheels, comes with all the parts to do either one. There are two spare front and rear ends. New parts include clutch, hood, interior panels etc. Please e-mail for contact info and questions. Have title.

    Thanks

Sounds like a deal to me and yes the trannys are the same.  Only difference is the early ones had a dipstick and later had a plug in the side to fill & check the fluid level.  Not sure when that change was made.  Last time I was at Carlisle (many years ago) the asking price for a used OD was around 750.  Abandoned projects are a great way to get a lot of expensive stuff for cheap.
