    TR3 Horns

Near the end of my three year journey wired car installed batteryall good. Blew horns 30 amp fuse blew (horns did blow) now it seems I have a direct short in the right side horn. Remove and test on battery horn works. Using brown w green for hot and brown w black for ground. Am I missing something or is the horn NG? Thought it was the horn untill I tested on the battery. Note these are new windtone horns. Any help would be appreciated.      Steve

Keep in mind that these are switched on the ground side.  Brown/green to A2 on the fuse box, brown/black to brown/black in the steering column.

    Re: TR3 Horns

Steve, You are incorporating a relay to actually supply the horn power I presume?? They do take  quite a large current. My memory is a bit hazy but 40 years ago on my 3, I seem to remember that I ran a seperate supply line to the relay contacts and thence to the horns and used the  [fused ] connections discussed above to drive the relay coil only. I dont remember fusing that seperate line [but if I did I would be putting in at least a 30 Amp anti-surge ] as its only temporarily powered unless of course you love the sound of windtones!!  Hope this helps,   Regards,     - - - - -  steve

Thank You All   Went back to my gut feeling and checked on bench. Hot leed continuity to case that just won't work in any car.   Steve
