    TR4 oversize (thicker) head gaskets??

Does anyone know if an oversize or thicker head gasket is available to compensate for heads that have been shaved?

My compression is running about 190 lbs!   What is the normal compression reading for a healthy TR4?

My head has been re- worked at least two times that I know of and I'm sure it's at about the limit although I've yet to measure it.

The car runs strong but diesels when shut down.  I want to bring the compression down a bit to avoid problems and have a reliable driver.

I do know of a company that offers oversize solid copper gaskets but have seen mixed reviews regarding solid copper head gaskets.

Anyone out there had any experience with the solid copper head gaskets?

I also posted  a question regarding the steel head gaskets offered by Moss but  got no feedback on that.

    Thanks : KSD

Contact Motorbill66 via pm.  He's done a bunch of this kind of work in his Brit restoration business.

KSD, Has the head truly been worked over or just planed too many times? A rework job on the combustion chambers would lower your CR a bit but more importantly would remove sharp edges that are known to provoke run-on dieseling. Of course nasty minded folks would ask what do you expect from a tractor engine!!  My TR3 many moons ago would run-on after driving in London traffic, only way I could stop it was into third with the brakes fully on!

I wonder if anyone has tried to fit the MGB solution to this problem on to other vehicles??
