1962 TR 4 Oil pump drive shaft (source of engine noise?)

I have a rather loud clack or ticking noise at idle that I seem to remember reading somewhere might be coming from the oil pump drive shaft. Any conformation  on that theory? If so, what is the fix other than replacing the shaft? Timing chain, tensioner and gears have been changed. Valves are adjusted properly and I'm confident it's not coming from the valve train. The noise is not heavy enough to be main or rod bearings.Pistons and  liners are new . Engine runs strong and sounds great above idle.  Thanks KSD

I have not removed the Oil pump drive shaft so I don't know if it is a big deal or not. Would you want to remove it and see if you have the same noise without the drive shaft, of coarse you would only want to run the motor for a minute without the drive shaft in there. You may even be able to tell if it's the pump drive shaft if you run the motor with the oil pan removed, again for a very short time.

    KSD-

You can pick up a mechanic's stethiscope  at your local parts store. To use it, put it in your ears like a doctor would and touch it to the area where you believe the sound is coming from. The sound will get louder, the closer to the source you get. It's so sensitive, I use it to check if fuel injectors are working or not.
