    Suspension

I have a 1961 Morris Minor 1000 (recently purchased)!  My good friend, a retired engineer and used-to-be MG racer suggested that in order for the car to ride better, I should put in tubular shocks in the front!  I looked at the two stores (which he suggested and was unable to locate the proper kit!  Where does one find the proper items for changing or adapting to tubular shocks for my car?

    Re: Suspension

I for one don't recommend the common tube shock conversions for a couple of reasons. First is that most of them retain the original lever action shocks because of the necessary suspension link and the result is a shock rate based on the combined effects of the tube unit and the remaining lever action. The second is that as far as I know there was never a tube shock designed for these Morris cars. You wind up using a shock actually designed for another vehicle so the adjustment is usually set at almost the lowest setting to get a good ride quality. I highly recommend just having the original shocks rebuilt by Peter Caldwell at World Wide Auto Parts. He can rebuild them to actually be better than new with improved bearing surfaces internally as well as an improved sealing method. He guarantees them for life, and all for a very reasonable price. Peter can also install a stiffer valve assemlby if you want a bit firmer handling. http://www.nosimport.com/
