Soon the 73 Midget, We just got done with replacing the old shocks and spings with mosses converstion Kit front and back , front and rear Tube shocks new front and rear springs also. and after changing out the trunion bushings we are seeing the Camber have a ??negitive effect??(not sure if neg or pos.)  the top of the front wheels are closer to the Body the the bottoms.

    IE        O----------O Top Wheel
              O-------------O    Bottom Wheel

    Now the Frame is Straight

We have no idea how to correct this .  Any help or sugestions would be welcome. If need be we can post a pic

    kc,

What you have shown is NEGATIVE camber. There are no adjustments for castor or camber on the Midget. Was the camber correct with the old springs? Has the ride height been altered by the new springs? How? A coupla answers and I bet we can get you figured out.

Re: Front and rear end Redone, Now Camber is off

Did you install the Frontline/Costello conversion kit in the front? If so the problem might well be there. I was under the impression that the kit was designed to add a small bit of negative camber over stock. If the new front springs also cause the front of the car to ride higher than before that will add to the negative camber effect as well. As long as both sides are the same I would doubt if there's any problem with the chassis or kit you installed, but mostly because of the increased ride height with the new front springs. I'd suggest trying the old front springs and see how the car sits and the camber looks with those. Front springs are usually not too prone to sag or other problems like the rear leaf springs are so seldom need replacement and my experience with new front coils hasn't been all that positive. I'd stick with the original springs.

yes I did put the Forntline Costello kit in the midget.  thanks for the information on the front springs.  I didn't see mutch differance in hight in the new front springs but there was aconsiderable differance in the rear leafs. I not real familar with King Pins but there does not seam to be any movement in the front end.  .Yes on the ride hight aprox. 1 in. in the front and 2 to 3 inchs in the rear.  I ordered standard spring to replace the sagging springs.  It did have quite a bad case of sag.

Re: Front and rear end Redone, Now Camber is off

I recall seeing the top trunnion fitted 180 degrees out on a Sprite/Midget some years ago, giving a very odd camber angle.

Are you sure the trunnions are not rotated to the wrong position?

This could be a complete red herring

    Cheers

When the top trunnions on a Sprite/Midget or MGB are installed backwards, massive amounts of POSITIVE camber are introduced. Ask me how I know.......................................... Maybe not......

well its taken me a while to get back to you.  I think I have figured out what was wrong with the front end of the midget.  I was looking under the front end of the midget and I saw the upper crossmember.  the one that is just between the radiator and the fan if you are looking down from the top of the engine.  Its also the one that the cross over for the lower radiator hose.  I spied a chunk of that cross member that had been cut out and rewelded.  It never made sence to me why the previous person did that.  when they welded it back in they didn't do a very good job.  If you look at the front subframe you will see where it is bracing the two upper control arms.   I guess that will teach me to look a little closer.
