My Car in the Moss MGA Supercharger System Installation Instructions

I'm hoping someone can help me track down some information/history on my 1960 MGA.  I bought it from a fellow in Canada who bought it from someone in California who worked at Moss Motors.  This history I got was that the car had been used in either some of the production or marketing of the Moss supercharger.  The car was mechanically in good shape, but the body left a lot to be desired.  It was an ugly brown with light browny primer spots.

I haddn't given much thought to the Moss history of the car until recently, when I happened accross the Moss MGA Supercharger installation instructions.  Most of the pictures in the instruction booklet are indeed my car!  It's kinda neat and I'd love to hear from anyone who would have worked on the Supercharger Installation Instructions to learn some history of my car.

$25K later, the car is now chariot red and placer in many shows.

     Thanks for any help!

    Glen

    Hi Glen,

The car belonged to one of our vice presidents, Chris Kepler. He offered it up for test fitment and tuning of the MGA supercharger installation. I only drove it once, but remember the brown and primer paint. We were finalizing the design of the MGB blower kit and wanted to offer it for MGA as well. Although it was never really used for marketing purposes, as you have noticed, there are photos of it in the installation instructions. It may be said, your's was the first MGA equipped with the Moss supercharger kit.

Glad to hear the car is restored and being shown with pride. Can't think of a better "fate" for a beautiful car like the MGA.

    Cheers,

    Robert

    Glen.

That's a car that deserved to get some loving attention. I got to test drive the car during the supercharger installation process and was very impressed at what a nice driver it was. It did need a lot of TLC in the paint and interior, but drove very well.

The car needed brakes, so it was also used to test fit the new alloy front brake caliper adapter plates, which allowed the fitment off MGB front calipers. This is something to keep in mind if you need front brake pads.

There is not much more known about the earlier history of the car. Our VP Chris Kepler purchased the car from a local owner, but no longer has any contact information for them.

    enjoy the ride

    Robert & Kelvin:

Thank you so much for your info.  It would be nice to get more history, but with a 50 year old car, that isn't such an easy request to fulfil.  My main question was whether or not you know if anything had been switched out on the rear brakes (wheel cylenders?).  I'm on my second set of brake shoes and have only about 2 clicks left on the snail cams (3 clicks when new).  I've replaced drums with brand new and still no better.

I had noticed the front brakes (after ordering MGA rebuild kits and pads)  :)

I wish I knew how to upload a picture.  The car is very sweet to look at (Chariot red, honey tan leather interior and Dayton spoke wheels) and even sweeter to drive.

    Glen,

I've asked our Forum Administrator to open a photo gallery here for you. Once that is opened you will be able to upload photos.

    Thanks,

    Christine

    Thanks Christine.

I managed to post a few pre-restoration and a few post-restoration photos on my gallery.
