    TRIUMPH ENGINE CONVERSION

I have a 76' spit 1500.The engine threw a rod and destroyed the engine.I'm looking for a way to put a different 4 cyl. engine in it.I checked the net and all I could find was a v8 swap.No thank you, please. The torque would probably make a pretzel out of it.I would prefer to put something more reliable in it.any ideas, advise would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks,

Joe Curry, who maintains the Triumph Spitfire database, has installed a Honda S2000 engine in a Spitfire.

His car and contact information can be found via the following address:

    Re: TRIUMPH ENGINE CONVERSION

I have a 70 Spitfire--same problem--no motor. A few years ago I started putting a 1600 cc Toyota motor (out of a rear drive Corolla). I got it bolted in--then quit on it to work on my Midget. Someday I may finish the "ToySpit". This engine series has a lot of available performance parts. The same block is even in the MR-2. It also fits nicely under the bonnet.

    Re: TRIUMPH ENGINE CONVERSION

There are many engines that will go in but most if not all require a lot of work.

With an engine change you most of the time need a gearbox change ect.

I know of a K series conversion, an others inc a Ford Z-TEC.

If you want further info please let me know.

    Re: TRIUMPH ENGINE CONVERSION

I have a 74 spitfire 1500 wich I plan on putting a Chevy v6 4.3 liter engine in. It is the perfect combination of big enough to kick butt, weak enough to not instantly incinerate the car and small enough to fit. Also there are many options and upgrades for the tinkerer.
