I have a 1960 bugeye with a 1098cc engine whose serial number indicates its designed to mate with close ratio transmission. The engine is currently mated to a smooth case transmission. From what I can tell the smooth case was not intended to be fitted to a 1098, so rather than rebuild the smooth case I want to replace it with a rib case. Are there any issues I will encounter in fitting the new rib case? Alos, what does "close ratio" mean from a practical standpoint?
