    ah 3000 dipstick

I have a Austin Healey 3000,mk 1, BT7L/101086 the problem is the motor was blown in the late 60's and an authorized Healey dealer replaced the engine with a BJ8 Beast. I switched out the electronic distributor with a early version so I could use the tach gadge, not a problem, but the dipstick is the original BT7 stick and it is not long enough to make an accurate reading. Could some one tell me what the length of the BJ8 dipstick from the stopper top to the end of the stick. I think I can make a new stick to make this work or does someone have a dipstick for sale out there.

I can't tell you the length but you can figure it out on your own.

Change the oil but leave it 1 quart short of the published capacity for that engine. Run the engine for a few seconds to fill the filter, then take a measurement with a piece of semi-rigid material (like a piece of AWG 14 Romex).

Then, add the last quart and measure again.

It will be great fun...invite the neighbors, tell the kids! Good luck!

The length of the dipstick from the point of entry into the engine block is 17 3/8" (seventeen & three eights)

Measuring from the bottom of the dipstick, the MIN mark is 1/4" (one quarter) & the MAX is 1 3/8" (one & three eights)

    Good luck,
