    Running rough

I have had a Bugeye (1958 with 948cc) for about 7 years now, but am new to this forum.  I need some help.  I moved from New England to North Carolina in the winter of 2006/2007 and since that time the Sprite has not run well.  It sounds like it is missing - i.e. one cylinder is not firing.  I have replaced wires and plugs, ohmed out the distributor cap- taken a shot at timing and done points/.condensor, etc..   I have replaced the vac lines from carb to the distributor  and changed out the vacuum advance. If I choke it up, it runs well, but will not take throttle from idle without stalling.  I am beginning to think that I must have a more serious problem in the engine.  Can somebody point me the right direction?

First thing would be to perform a compression test to verify engine condition.

Your need to use the choke is an interesting clue.  If the engine runs well when the fuel mixture is enriched, your ignition system may not be at fault.  If the car ran OK prior to the move, and crappy now without any adjustments on your part, it sounds like the fuel delivery system just needs some TLC.

Assuming you're running SU carbs, remove the suction chamber domes and clean up the interior and the suction piston edge rings.  Verify the damper tube is properly filled with 20W oil (or whatever you prefer).  Do the piston lift test and verify each piston doesn't stick up and drops freely back to the floor with a click.  I'll throw my two pence on the table and bet you've got one piston sticking, causing both the missing cylinder and acceleration lean-out stall.  Beer
