    Re: How Old?

1963 Mk2 3.8L, goes by the name Pearl.  She is a nice kitty.   Any chance Moss will recognize the Mk2?  I know it is not very common, but there were "only" 83,980 produced (highest production until the XJ series).

hope to give you guys more money in the future!!

    Dave:

As a 3.8S owner, I'd really love Moss to jump into the early Jaguar sedan business, but I'm afraid it is not likely. The cars are quite complicated and there are enough unique parts that stocking any kind of working inventory would not be cost effective.

The later XJ series sedans were the bread and butter of our wholesale division, so converting that program to retail made sense, hence the later cars in the Jaguar catalog.

Moss does carry most of the engine parts you will need plus a full line of MWS wire wheels.

    Re: How Old?

Jolly good question then, and hello all!

drink a toast of 20-50 as I celebrate my first ever post on this forum.

In the past I have loved and llost my heart over the following:

A 1961 E Type FHC in the mid 1970's  as well as a 1973 FHC in the early 1980's.

    I purchased a 1988 VDP XJ-12 in 1988

    My current collection consists of

     -1987 XJ-6 Soveriegn purchased used in 1996.

    -1987 XJ-12 VDP  (S-III body)

    -1985 XJ-12 VDP

THe '87 Sovereign is also a series 3 body style as are all of my current cars.

Although it is not a true 87 S-III although I have seen true versions here in Canada I am not sure that any of them made it into the US.

What can I say? I love the Jag V-12 and the series III sedans.

There now, doesn't that thick oil taste good?

    Re: How Old?

    Thick oil always tastes good.

It sounds like you have quite a collection. I love the Ser III look too, but have yet to own one. I did cut my selling skills during the heyday of the Ser III, so have a good idea of what good cars they are.

Since our family already has a 3.8S and a Rover SD1 to handle the passenger chores, it's unlikely that a Ser III is going to grace our garage, but at least I can still appreciate how they look on the road.

    all the best

    Re: How Old?

Yes...many a tear shed and blood spilled on my Jags.

I still wake every day to look at my cars and whistfully shake my head,

Cannot believe what good things I must have done in life to deserve the right to observe so cavalierly as I do, the stunningly beautiful rolling automotive sculpture that is every Jaguar.

After all these years of owning them never do I tire (Tyre?) of looking at them.

    True love!!

A delicate balance awaiting a heartbreak..perhaps. Depending on how stupid in love you are I suppose.

Must be why oil tastes so good to me?

    Re: How Old?

hello, this is my first post and I am glad to be here.

I have two Jaguar:  The youngest is a 1984 XJ-6, my first Jaguar and I'm its second owner. Have owned it for the last 16 years!  A very reliable car. The oldest is a 1965 3.8 'S' ,  the original 'S' type. I'm the third owner. The previous 2 owners are famous VIP people from San Francisco, where I bought it and drove it home to Tennessee back in 2005. (I moved to Florida last year). It brought me home! 2,916 miles of almost non-stop excitement! not a glitch except a flat tire in Texas and in Texas you never lack for help. A couple of young ranchers stopped to admire the car just as I discovered there was no Thor Hammer to remove the spinner!  One of them pulled out a 4-feet sledgehammer he called "The Convincer" and the spinner was removed with one tap.

I actually prefer the 3.8 engine to the 4.2, there's so much passing power after 80mph!  Has anyone noticed how Jaguar did NOT name the 1999 Small Sedan/Saloon  "The New MK-II"??  No, they named it "The New S type".  Wonder why?  Because the 'S' is the better car of the two, after all it has the E-type's IRS, a huge trunk/boot where one could sleep comfortably, beautiful giraffe-like eyelids over the headlamps and auxiliary lamp buckets, contrary to the MK-II which looks like shaved eyebrows. Not to mention that the auxiliary lamp buckets/openings in the 'S' type are designed for 5.25" lamps and the MK-II 's for 4.25" lamps. Not to mention the wood in the 'S' type is much more involved.

So why is it that a great company like Moss Motors offers so little for the original 'S' type Saloon?  I installed one of the Moss Motors' "Tourist Trophy" 15" steering wheels in my 'S' type, nobody else on earth had a 15" Leather steering wheel with very thick grip. (except Moss Motors of course).  Though the Tourist Trophy wheels are made in china, I have no problem with the Chinese, those people are producing excellent quality products and that's good enough for me,  actually better quality than some European products I've seen, and the Europeans are good.

There is an issue with the original Heater Valve (Heater Tap Servo Unit) which no other Jaguar model used, except the 'S' type. I wish that Moss Motors Reproductions Dept. would invest in reproducing it exactly. There are many owners of 'S' types who need it. I'm willing to contribute an original example. Unfortunately I don't have the money or the connections to reproduce these valves in China.

    regards,

    Jose
