    Carpet Recommendations

Which have people used for their TR4s (and TR3s).  What would you recommend?  How about sound dampening?

    Re: Carpet Recommendations

I am prepping right now to put new carpet in my TR4. I will be using Luxury LIner Pro by Second Skin. Here is the link: http://www.secondskinaudio.com/products/Noise-and-Sound-Deadener.php

I found a carpet kit on Ebay for $197 from Chart-one-auto. I haven't installed yet but all the pieces were in the box and seems like a good deal so far. If you haven't started yet, be ready to replace the transmission cover. Your original part is probably just as oil-soaked as mine was before I ripped it out. They were made of press board. I purchased the newer plastic cover from Moss, part number 857-125. Looks great so far.

I will let you know how my project goes.

    Re: Carpet Recommendations

I just completed my carpet install and I am reporting as promised.

I put in the Second Skin Audio material before the carpet and for the most part it was a good decision because it really did dampen the engine noise considerably. However, it makes everything about .25 to .50 inches higher which made it more difficult to install the seats because the mounting rails bowed. This also makes the seats more difficult to adjust (slide) after installation. Also, the center dash support is about 1 inch away from the floor where it needs to be bolted because of the padding and new carpet on the transmission cover. I may have to go in and cut out some of the material so that the support will bolt to the floor and the radio plate will fit. If I were to do it all again I would probably skip the padding on the transmission cover all together. It's just more material to remove if I have to get under the cover for a repair.

The kit I purchased through Ebay fit just fine with only minor modifications, however, it is fairly cheap carpet and I am a bit worried how long it will last me before I will have to put more in.

I used about 4 cans of 3M 90 strength spray adhesive for most of the job. I spayed both surfaces and waited a few minutes before attaching as this creates a stronger bond but you won't have much wiggle room once you commit to the position. On the sills I used Liquid Nails adhesive as these strips of carpet are thin and will receive the most wear. Be ready with about six spring clamps to hold these pieces to the sill area while the adhesive drys. Also a few heavy hammers and odd heavy objects in my garage helped to hold the bits down as they dried.

    Anyway, good luck to you.
