    Finally an. O.D.

    Hi guys....

I know it's been awhile since you've heard from me, but rest assured I have been keeping tabs of all the going ons here at the Forum! I have news!! My mechanic has located an O.D. tranny for me! It is coming out of a very badly rusted 73 B, my mechanic was able to start the car and go through all the gears and over-drive and assured me that it is excellent condition! Soooo very soon( just in time for the driving season) I will be able to travel on our 400 series highways without the "familiar death grip" on the steering wheel!  I don't plan on doing a lot of highway driving, but it is reassuring to know that the little extra 'punch' is there if you need it. Will keep all my friend here at the forum posted!

    Cheers...Rita

P.S. you do realize MotorBill, that as soon as this work is done I will find the "A" of my dreams...Murphy's Law!  :-)))

Good luck with the trans-transplant. Great to hear you're still with us on the forum.

    I want my MGB

    Re: Finally an. O.D.

Glad to hear you were able to find one!  They're plentiful across the pond but for a decent price here in the states, they take a little looking.  No one wants to pay a huge sum!

Overdrive is nice for that peace of mind, keeps the car a little quieter at higher RPM's.

    Cheers!

Hey Bill... Good and yourself? Been quite busy what with kids, dogs and life in general! As you can see I got myself an O.D. Pretty exciting stuff (must be getting old Wink ) now all I need is some conducive driving weather,I've been reading all the post here at the forum and have noticed a conspicuous absence of a certain someone! Hope everything is well with you!

    Cheers...Rita

    Re: Finally an. O.D.

Hey, I'm a new member, but I've been a professional tech for years (ASE mastertech since 1976 and owned my 1st MGB in 1972 and have been a British enthusiast eversince. I have just installed a 1979 Nissan 280ZX 5 speed in my MGB. It is unbelieveable. It is by far a much stronger trans than the MGB unit and what a difference. It was a very easy install. athe shifter comes out in the exact location of the old shifter w/no modification necessary. The kit is about $800.00 and the Trans you can find used for about $250.00.It only takes about 3 hours extra after removing the engine for a clutch job.The thing I like is you are actually shifting into 5th gear instead of an electronic switch that is a solenoid activated shift. The Nissan Trans was designed to take a lot more horsepower than the MGB could ever develop.Bulletproof.Any 5 speed 280z or zx (1977-1983) will work. Hope I haven't confused you, just trying to help you with some better options.Should be more reliable.

    Rita 73B,

Your absence was from this forum was indeed noticed. I can only hope that during that time, your chopped liver eating, dinner party activity was ALSO curtailed.

It is great to see that you're back with us because the others on this forum, male humans mostly, posses far too few brain cells to maintain an interesting exchange of ideas.

By the way, when you wrote that you, "have noticed a conspicuous absence of a certain someone!" Just exactly to WHOM WERE YOU REFERRING - 5 SPEED FACE?

    Welcome home!

Don't knock it till you've tried it!

Five Speed Face indeed...is that the best you can come up with, you must be slipping in your malodorous and putrid dotage.

    Congrats on the O.D.

Always good to have O.D.  I was just wondering if anybody out there knows if the O.D. from an MGC will fit a 70's era MGB?
