    garage finds

i just found a 1966 mkIII that has been in a garage for the last 12 years

is there anything i need to do to the motor before i try to turn it so i won't damage anything?

Change the oil, pull the plugs out and squirt some Marvel Mystery oil in the plug holes.  Then try to turn the engine over with the plugs out.  Don’t try to start it with old gas in the fuel system.

    Re: garage finds

It's a special concoction that claims all manner of magical traits. It does work as a sort of penetrating oil and will wick into tight places. So it is good for the first few turns of a "rested" engine. I suspect you can find it at you local parts store. If not then any very low viscosity motor oil will work. That is, if the engine is not frozen. It still might work anyway but will take longer. After 12 years, I would turn it over by hand a few times very carefully just to be sure you don't have a valve or two stuck open. The starter motor would not likely feel that and probably break something.
