I have a '58 MGA roadster . Frame off restoration about 10 years ago with about 1000 miles put on it since the restoration. It's got a completely rebuilt '74 MGB engine and 4 speed complete with oil cooler. Purist may hate that, but it makes a great driver! I've got a '72 MGB also and it's much more civilized to drive, but the A is soooo much more fun.
