Hi all,

i have recently purchased a 1984 austin mini and am quite new to the scene and have a few queeries 1. the budget carpet sets in which you can buy for minis, are they of any good quality, easy to fit and if so how would i go about fitting it? and also 2. being that i have a 1984 mini what size fuel tank have i got as i want to purchase the carpeted boot kit.

Hi owen,  Assuming it is the factory fitted tank it will be the 7.5 gallon unit.  I believe the change from 5.5 gallon to 7.5 as standard happened in 1980.  As for the carpets my only advice to you is if your bank balance allows go for the moulded carpet set, fitting is easy and the finish is alot better than the budget carpets which have a habit not going into the wheel arch creases and curves very well leaving you with a messy join between the main carpet and the inner wheel arch.
