    THE RISEING COST OF PARTS

I REALIZE THE THE DOLLAR TO POUND IS DOUBLE BUT A LOT OF PARTS ARE ON THE SHELF SO COME ON SOMEBODYS MAKING A KILLING. WHILE WE SUFFER TO KEEP THESE CARS ALIVE. IT IS NOT JUST PARTS FROM THE UK I CAN UNDERSTAND THIS , I  NOT KNOCKING MOSS  JUST THE SITUATION IN GENERAL OTHER SUPPLIERS OFFER WEEKLY DISCOUNTS BUT THE PRICES ARE STILL HIGHER THAN A FEW MONTHS AGO.I HATE TO SAY IT I LOVE MY 2 TR6 S BUT RESTORING THEM AND MAINTANANCE IS GETTING VERY COSTLY. WE AS A BUNCH SHOULD DO SOMETHING TO GET THE PRICES TO A MORE REASONABLE LEVEL..THERE IS POWER IN NUMBERS . IF WE ALL STOPPED BUYING PARTS FOR A FEW MONTHS IM SURE YOU WOULD SEE PRICES DROP...MAKES ME WANT TO BUILD A NICE PERFORMANCE JAP CAR....SORRY BUT I THOUGHT I WOULD NEVER GO THAT WAY.

Re: THE RISEING COST OF PARTS

    TR6,

I understand your frustration. But the increasing prices of parts are due more to a global economic picture than greed. Try to remember that the cost of doing business continues to rise at an alarming rate, regardless of what price was paid for the "parts on the shelf" I say this not as a big time parts supplier but as a small Britcar businessman. My own overhead has increased this year by a staggering amount, and if I'm going to stay here to serve the British car community, I've got to increase my prices as well. If I was Richard Branson, perhaps I'd just take it on the chin for a couple of years. Alas, If I hold the price line in spite of the cost of energy and bread, I'll be gone in a few months. IT stinks, but it's true

As far as your suggestion of boycotting the suppliers for "a few months" goes, the prices wouldn't drop, the suppliers would. Then where would we be? Sending far MORE cash overseas to get what we need. Believe me, the major suppliers are no happier about all this than you are. I know people inside the parts industry. If you really think it would be cheaper to build a GOOD Japanese performance car I invite you to try.

I know it sucks, brother, but we are ALL in it together. Try to be understanding. If you want to see where the real greed is you'll have to look much further up the food chain than Moss or Victoria British, et.al. Chin up.

    John:

Be assured that if there was any market at the moment where you could "make a killing" it's not the British car restoration parts market. Looking around I see a lot of people working hard to ensure that British car parts stay available and affordable, despite the fact that margins are very slim compared to typical mass market goods. Most of the professionals in the British parts business could be making a lot more money in different industries, but a true love for the British cars and the odd so and so's that own them keeps them at it, even through gas prices rise and wages don't.

I checked out your car listings and I must say, you have three really neat automobiles. I can see how you must have sunk a small fortune into them. I do have to congratulate and thank you for helping to put bread on the table of a whole bunch of British car industry workers and for keeping this industry alive.

Re: THE RISEING COST OF PARTS

    Hi TR6

I just had to chime in. I kow that restoring these  wee cars can be expensive( I just ordered a new sun- fast roof for the "B"...gulp...) .But then again you could have a "nice performance Jap car" just like a million or so other people out there. It's all realative to what you want. I often wonder what "those" cars will be worth,  35 years from now?

    Hope you stay with us.

    Cheers...Rita
