    Radiator recommendations

    Hi all!

I'm currently in the process of converting my '79 Midget to a supercharged 1275 and Rivergate 5-speed.

Is there anyone else out there who's done the conversion? As it sits now, I'd like to retain the bigger 1500 radiator, however that will entail some modifications to the radiator itself, which I don't really want to do to a 29-year-old unit. So, I'm thinking about having a custom aluminum radiator made up; one that will eliminate the (in my eyes) silly crossover tube the crossflow 1275s had. I think this will be possible, using the early-type downflow thermostat housing (points right instead of left), modified crossflow-style upper hose, and modified lower hose. Thoughts?

Can anyone make a recommendation for a radiator company to use? Google turned up dozens...

    MGWOLF,

We recently had a long thread (discussion) about alternative performance radiators on another forum. Several folks are using aluminum VW crossflow radiators with great results.

Hope it is not a no-no to post the other board here...

www.britishcarforum.com  look under "spridgets" , also you might look at www.spritespot.com but the board is down at the moment

    Re: Radiator recommendations

I did indeed look 'em up... and the Jetta radiator looks like a clean, relatively simple installation!

However, I think I may still go the custom route, so I can get the hose connections, drain spigot, and filler cap/plug where I think they would be best. Either way, it's gonna cost me a pretty penny. But the way I see it, there's only one way to do it: Right, the first time!
