    Spin on adapter

    Hey Mossy baby!

I really dig your spin on adapter for my 68 Sprite, but since you provided no parts or explanation of how to hook up the BLUE hose that came with it, I had to be creative with some 3/8" galvanized plumbing pipe and fittings to tie it into my oil cooler. The blue hose is sitting quietly on a shelf in my shop, still waiting to be installed.

Do you think you guys can give me a little direction on the PROPER installation method, and maybe include the couplings I may need to do the job, in the kit? I really wouldn't mind paying and extra $5 or so to have it installed the right way.

    Thanks babe...

    Re: Spin on adapter

    Davey,

Questions about parts are best handled through the "Contact Us" page on our website. http://www.mossmotors.com/AboutMoss/ContactUs.aspx

You should have received an instruction sheet with what I assume is the 235-875 Spin-onm Oil FIlter Adaptor.

The text of the revised instructions, which include references to photos and images I cannot include here:

    (1) Remove all of the pieces of the oil canister (2a).

(2)Unscrew the oil line fitting at the filter head (2c).

    (3) Unscrew the banjo bolt (2b).

    (4) Remove the oil line (2d) and the copper washers (2e).

    (5) Remove the entire filter head assembly (2f, 2g), and clean the surface of the block, removing all traces of the old gasket (Fig 3).

    (6) Thread the pipe fitting (1e) into the oil filter adaptor (1a) Make sure the fitting (1e) is tight.

    (10) Hold the adaptor (1a) up against the side of the block where it will be mounted. (See Fig 3 also)

    (11) Hold the end of the oil hose with the banjo fitting (1d) over the hole in the block where it will be secured with the banjo bolt (2b).

The sealing surfaces of the banjo fitting (1d) must be parallel to the sealing surface on the block without twisting or kinking the Aeroquip hose. If the banjo fitting (1d) is not sitting in the correct orientation, hold the adaptor (1a) in one hand and grasp the blue hose near the fitting (1e). Rotate the hose on the fitting (1e) until the sealing surfaces on the banjo fitting (1d) are parallel to the sealing surface on the block. Rotating the hose will be difficult. It will rotate slowly, but it will take a strong grip and some effort to get it to move.

    (12) Thread the socket cap screws (1f) into the holes in the block. If necessary, chase the threads in the block with the appropriate tap. The screws supplied in the kit are 3/8” UNC, which is 16 TPI.

    (13) Insert the two socket cap screws (1f) through the holes in the adaptor (1a).

    Fig 4

    (14) Apply Hylomar (or your favorite sealant) sparingly to both sides of the gasket (1f) and slide it onto the threaded section of the two screws.

    (15) Fit the adaptor to the block, tightening the two socket cap screws firmly.

    (16) Slide one new copper sealing washer (1h) onto your original banjo bolt (2b), and insert the banjo bolt through the banjo fitting (1d) on the end of the blue Aeroquip hose.

    (17) Slide the second copper washer (1h) onto the banjo bolt, and thread the banjo bolt back into the hole in the block. (Fig 4)

    (18) Tighten the banjo bolt.

    (19) Apply a thin smear of engine oil to the rubber seal on the top of the oil filter.

    (20) Thread the filter onto the ¾” pipe nipple (1b) in the middle of the adaptor. Follow the filter manufacturer’s instructions for tightening the filter.

    (21) Remove the spark plugs and spin the engine over on the starter until you have oil pressure on the gauge.

    (22) Replace the plugs, start the engine and carefully inspect all the connections for leaks.

We suggest that you change the oil and the filter every 3,000 miles or every 6 months.
