    Smiths Heater

Why do I have a "drive resistor" (Moss part #131-560) attached to my heater box? The green wire (hot side) is pluged into one side of the resistor and two other wires come off of the other side. The blower motor does not work with the resistor installed but when I hook the two wires up directly bypassing the resistor the fan blower works.  Any reason that I need this part on there? It looks like someone just screwed it through the fan box and hooked the wires to it.  Oh by the way the car is a 79 B

I don't know your situation exactly, but what you described is a typical heater motor resistor. Yours appears to be defective. There should be a two position heater switch which directs juice either to the motor directly, or through the resistor. You can check it with an ohmeter.

Oops, you are right. I didn't know there was a 3 position switch in the car (off, low and high). The motor is very quiet in low but it is working. I don't know how much air it blows on low but the high does work when I push the switch all of the way down.  Thanks much for the help.
