    Axle problems

Hello  to  all ,     I  just signed on to your great site....... It is refreshing that, I finally found a site that is pretty up to date on information.... There are many, many, good sites..... but hard to find fresh feedback.... Well, enough of that okay?  I have owned a 1976 Midget  (1500)  for about 4 years. Of which,  I  have only driven about 6 months total..... The little car was just starting to get the bugs out when..... coming home from work one day, and all of a sudden the engine rev's.........  while I'm in a shifting pattern ......... had to pull over quick to the shoulder of the road ...... that was it!!! .... had to call the towtruck......and there it stayed  in the driveway...... all covered over for the next 3 1/2  years...... I could have sold that little car atleast 25 times....If you know what I mean.....

Update:      I  have just started to tackle my problem this past week.     Well,  I  tore  the rear  end  apart and  sure  enough.......  broken  axle  shaft..  I have since ordered  another half axle,  gaskets, "o" rings, etc....  The differential  does have some  backlash....... that's  where I could use some help....Does anyone happen to know  the best way to correct this? before,  I  re-assemble  the rear end.... Gears all look good, no broken  teeth.... Half axle did shear at the spline ( pass side)  bearings look okay......no end play in the pinion gear shaft.  But, should I be looking  further into why that shaft broke?  I have never hot rodded the little car..... Unless someone before me  might have.  Any  feedback that  I can get from any of your experiences  would be most appreciated..........  Many  Thanks!  for allowing me to share my story with you .......                                                                                                                                                    Sincerely,  Vic Handel
