the scissor hinges are correct for a 69 body. They will not interchange with the early style since they sit in a pocket in the firewall.
If you are using a stick, then it means the hood prop is missing. The 69 had a retractable prop mounted to the LH side of the hood. You should see tabs there if the prop is missing. The early type had a wire prob that fit in a socket when folded.
The hinges don't hold anything up except the back end of the hood.
