hi.i wonder how many people out there,like me have thought that they need a reconditioned gearbox for there mgb.
you know the symptoms,at a certain speed an alarming loud rattle and or swooshing noise comes from the gear lever area,which can make driving your mgb quite unpleasant .Thoughts of large sums of repair money spring into mind.
However if you rest your hand on top of the gear lever the noise will almost completely dissapear.
to be told by someone i know who has accrued a lot of knowledge over the years,that the cure is actually quite easy,and that this problem is quite common to british leyland engines,came as a great relief to me.
what springs to my mind is : how many more things could there be that have a relatively easy fix,but are not even mentioned in the workshop manual?
maybe only the passing of years,and an inquisitive mind,can give you this knowledge,as it is not in any of my books anyway.
