I have two chrysler 340's in my old houseboat--installed crane xr700 ignitions a few years ago--they ran perfectly from the jump. However, the engines are hard starting and tend to flood easily. Recently, I jumped out the resistor, hence more voltage, more spark and much easier starting. The manual for the system says that if the controller gets "very hot", the resistor must be in place. When running, the controller is warm and I can keep my hand on it without any pain. I would like to keep running this way but don't want to be in the middle of the big lake with two dead engines. Can anybody give me any experience or feedback on this situation--Crane is out of business so I can't call their technical experts.
