I will take delivery of a 1953 TD shortly. I've spoken to the restorer and learned that the car has approximately 50,000 miles on it. During restoration, the restorer states that the engine was in such good shape that he did not need to rebuild it. The restoration was done about 7 years ago, and the car has been used very sparingly since then (100 miles in the past four years with the recent owner).
My question is, presuming an original engine, what precautions should I take in regard to fuel (additives?) and oil? I've read in other forums that modern oils don't provide all the ingredients needed by these older engines, and also understand that no-lead fuel is not healthy for vintage engines.
Any comments greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
