So, my cockpit is all stripped to the bare metal - I've removed the bulk of the surface rust with a wire brush - I then applied $40 worth of POR-15 products, including the Marine-Clean (cleaner/degreaser), Metal-Ready (a metal prep/sealer product), then two coats of POR-15 rust preventive primer (http://www.por15.com/products.asp?dept=1). Salesmen just love me!
I've gotten advice to apply bedliner over the POR-15. It adds an additional layer of protection and provides some sound deadening. The POR-15 people have a truck bedliner product that comes with a sprayer but costs $250 and has way more product than I need. Plasti-Kote has a one-gallon bucket for $50 that can be applied via brush, roller, or spray. Since I'm not really set up to spray, the Plasti-Kote stuff looks like the better option (plus it's a lot cheaper).
Does anyone have any advice as to either of these products, or is there another product you can recommend?
Two things you ought to know - 1) Car has no engine and I have no trailer, so taking it to a bedliner place is not possible. 2)Yes, I realize the bedliner over the POR-15 is probably overkill, but it rains a lot in Oregon and never seems to really dry out. Since this car has very little rust, I'd like to keep it that way.
Thanks again for your help!
