Recently purchased a 74 TR6 from original owner. I always wanted a french blue, but had to settle for white. The previous owner said the car stopped running in 1985 so he parked it and it has been sitting since. He had his brother in law mechanic try to get it running 6 years ago, but he failed. He appeared tohave new wires and plugs. I cleaned gas tank, new fuel pump, cleaned carbs (no rebuild). My factory trained triumph mechanic and friend (hasn't worked on triumphs in years) got the car running within a few hours, idles fine, starts fine, passed Nevada emissions. The problem is when it reachs 3000 rpm there is no power. I can drive and shift thru all gears, as long as I shift before 3000 rpm. the car does not die. It just won't move any faster, it starts hesitating. the coil appears to be the original one. I don't know about the condensor. He replaced the points but the new ones sparked and burned wrong, so he put the old ones back in. I am tried of waiting to enjoy this car. A lot of the additional work it needs, top, etc. is on hold becasue I really can't drive it anywhere. My friend says we need to go with a petronix. what coil do I need then and what condensor? thanks, I am desperate right now! T-6
