I've dismantled the lower block and discovered that the #1 piston has caused a slight gouge in the sleeve......I don't know how severe this is as machine shops are apparently a dieing trade according to the folks at Montejoys Automotive in Hyattsville, MD. This defect would explain why the engine was burning oil from the original owner. The question for the forum would be.....should I replace the cylinder sleeve for the #1 and have the others (remaining) bored out to the same specs and order heads and rings to match or should the engine have a total sleeve replacement for bores and the replacement heads / rings ordered to match?? I look forward to any discussion from restorers and enginre rebuilders.
Thanks for any info from the "Learned" MG types!
