The distributor won't make much difference to spark intensity, but you can eliminate point resistance (and the routine job of cleaning or changing points) by fitting a . I've been using these for several years on a TR-6 and MKII Jag. with no problems, and they should be available for 4 cylinder cars. You then just need to look at fitting a high performance (sports) ignition coil. Replacing spark plug cables with ones using real copper wire will also eliminate most of the resistance between distributor and plug, but cause radio noise. Finally, platinum spark plugs will help improve ignition.
