CODE OF CONDUCT
Welcome to Moss Motors' User Community - the world's largest community of Classic British sports car enthusiasts!
If you're a first time visitor, please read this before entering the forum...
Before jumping in, there are a few things you need to know to make your experience (as well as the experience of the other users) a positive one.
- Although several employees of Moss Motors are interested in the discussions here, and will be posting where they feel it appropriate, we are not "actively" monitoring the discussions on this board. Truly, we want our forum to be your forum.
- If you came here because you have a specific problem with a Moss Motors part, and wish to report it to us, please contact us HERE.
- The forums have a SEARCH FEATURE. It's often helpful to run a search to see if your question has been answered by someone else previously.
- When you post, please do so in the most appropriate section. Please use a Subject Title that is descriptive. Don't force people to open the thread to find out what the topic is.
The Code of Conduct in a 'Nutshell'
- All Topics and Posts must be related to classic British sports cars, accessories, or automotive topics. Off-topic, good-humored and non-relative Posts may be posted in the MOSS PUB.
- Language that would be inappropriate in the polite company of strangers is quite unwelcome here.
- No advertising, spamming, fundraising, trolling, illegal activity, flaming or other personal attacks, be they acrimonious or veiled in humor. If you take issue with a Member's position, by all means speak your mind. If you have a problem with a Member's religion, creed, national origin, sex, politics, associations or personal hygiene, take it to e-mail (or better yet, keep it to yourself).
- As we can never convey a philosophy through a Code of Conduct, Moss Motors, Ltd. reserves the right, at our sole discretion, to edit or delete posts and/or to revoke any Membership. No second chances. No argument. No trial. At best you will receive one warning.
Advertising Policy
Advertising (including auctions, sales, fundraising efforts, promoting your business in your signature, etc.) is strictly prohibited!
Individuals who have items to sell may not do so on the forum. You may not reference items for sale in your signature.
You may not reference your automotive related business or URL in your signature, user profile, or your username.

Posting Guidelines And Examples of Acceptable Posts
Many of us learn in grammar school about "free speech" and "freedom of expression," a concept stemming from the first amendment to the United States Constitution. Unfortunately, most people have never read the first amendment and fewer still understand how it applies to our rights. Essentially, the first amendment prohibits the U.S. government from passing laws restricting our right to free speech. It does not restrict an organization or business from enacting and enforcing standards.
We believe in freedom of expression, the first amendment, and all that it implies. However, we are not providing the forum for that freedom. We have codes of conduct. They must be honored. If you cannot accept it, please do not register (or ask for your account to be deleted if you have already created one).
Moss Motors' Forum is a community of British sports car owners and enthusiasts. We have a strong belief in the ability of forum members to "self-regulate" to stay within the bounds of these standards. Due to a limited number of volunteer staffing, we are sometimes lax in enforcing them. Still, we have a strong commitment to providing an environment that we consider professional and "family friendly" and we insist on adherence to our principles.
- All posts must be civil, friendly, and not contain any profanity or references to profanity.
- All posts must have some point to them and some value.
- This is not a soapbox. You can't say whatever you like.
- Inflammatory, immature and/or pointless topics will be deleted.
- Administrators have a free reign here. If any post is deemed by any administrator to violate the general philosophy of this forum's Code of Conduct, it most likely will be deleted.
- Repeat offenders will be banned.
- This is a family forum - like it or not.
- No fundraising or advertising.
- No cross-posting.
Please note that advertisements (such as auctions, sales, fundraising efforts, promoting your business in your signature, etc.), chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are inappropriate on the Moss Forum.
No requests for information that is a "pay-for-service" info. You may not, for example, ask someone to look up your VIN in Carfax. To do so is a violation of that person's agreement with Carfax and Moss Motors' Forum will not be a party to that violation.
No reposting of copyrighted pictures or articles. It's fine to link to the original article, but it is illegal to copy the entire article into a post.
It is not an easy task to define where "the line" that shouldn't be crossed lies. However, we'll do our best to provide an example. Consider the following types of discussions and topics:
Example of Appropriate Topics
- British car repair questions and answers
- Tips on upgrading a British car for better handling, performance, etc.
- Relative value of normal aspiration vs. supercharging
- Garage talk
- Tools
Example of "Over The Line" Topics
- Posts about pets, music, beverages, software, and quite a few other topics where cars aren't the primary subject. (Although, some liberty is given in our MOSS PUB off-topic area for our forum members to 'blow-off steam' or 'kick-back' and just talk.)
- Topics which, when opened, contain nothing of value.
- Posts that inappropriately critique moderating decisions or forum policies.
- Highly divisive, controversial issues such as religion, gun control, politics, etc. There are more appropriate forums on the web for this.
- Discussions, descriptions or references to any vulgar or graphic anatomical material or functions.
- Posts with the sole goal of inciting 'flame wars,' such as "don't you think owners of xyz cars are jerks?"
- Posts containing explicit (even if thinly veiled) profanity and/or pornography.
- Topics about activities which would result in incarceration.
Unfortunately, determining which side of "the line" a given post falls is not always so simple. Forum moderators have the difficult task of making that judgment call. Hopefully they'll make the decision that is considered "correct" by 99.9% of the community, but they're human and they will occasionally make mistakes. If you feel that the moderators of a particular forum are making too many mistakes, please CONTACT US with specific details. Do not post complaints, criticisms, or questions about specific moderators on the forum. These posts will be deleted and no explanation will be given to you.
