    Sweating Brake Hose

Hello.  I have a '68 MGC with the remote brake fluid reservoir which is mounted on the firewall.  This system is connected through 2 rubber(?) hoses which feed the M/C by gravity.

I cannot find flexible hose material for this set-up.  Everything I have tried so far ends up with the brake fluid (Castrol LMA) sweating through the hoses.  I have run the gamut from hydraulic pressure hoses to clear fuel line.

If possible, please recommend a type of flexible hose material I can use to connect the reservoir to the M/C that does not sweat.

    Thank you.

    Re: Sweating Brake Hose

    cw,

I don't think the fluid is "Sweating" through the hoses. I think it's eating through them. Some rubber materials will not stand up to some brake fluids. You don't say which of either you're using, but obviously you haven't found the correct combination!!

Tilton engineering sells various master cylinder kits which include remote resevoirs as an option. They come with rubber hose. We've never had a problem with them. I suggest you contact Tilton and ask for their advice or perhaps their hose. Cheers.

    Re: Sweating Brake Hose

Craig, there are materials available that will withstand the brake fluid. If you can't get the Tilton hose check with your local hydraulic shop where they make up hoses for industrial applications. They can check their products and find a hose that will meet your needs.
