    New member

Hi, I have joined this forum and would like to introduce myself. George Wiltshire, I live in Cornwall England and have recently acquired a 1971 TR6, which originally began life in LA California, so the body and chassis are very good.

Welcome to the minority side of the aisle Wink ; there's a majority of MG guys here that just haven't seen the light...yet.

Here's a picture of my brace.

    Re: New member

Hi poolboy, thanks for the reply, yeah a friend of mine asked why I bought the TR when I could have an MGB!! he clearly hasn't seen the light. I like your's, I see you have Minilites on one, how do you find them, I have steel wheels on mine, I am thinking of changing the tyres from185R15(that's how they are marked, but I think they must be 185/70R15 as the rolling radius is 320mm measured on the ground) I am thinking of 205/60R15, but am open to advice on this. I am currently uprating the suspension with new shocks, springs and poly bushes, as I think it is still original! Also I am fitting new uprated drive shafts as they are both worn and clonking under acceleration. I might fit vented discs and new stainless hoses at the same time, then I can be certain that all is OK with the running gear.

    cheers curlyboy

    Re: New member

Hey again, curlyboy. I like the wheels. They are Panasports. I don't know if I'd have sprung the money for them, but the PO did. What Ireally appreciate about them is when I have to remount them on the car. They really are lighter.

The 74, with the AC Cobra bumpers has lever shocks and GP rear springs, Dunlop Signature 205/70/15 and holds the road, just wonderfully especially the twisty country roads

The 73 has Spax tubular GP springs on the rear, Koni on the front with aluminum steering rack mountsm Michelin 205/70/15 and a whole host of engine mods.

I find the ride a bit stiff, but it's great on the highway.

You seem to know your way around so I guess you've checked the differential mount on the front left. I had a repair to make on the 74, but the PO took care of that on the 73 before I got it.

Here's a shot of the 73's engine. And, BTW, if you find things getting a little slow here, come check out www.6-pack.org ; we're definitly the majority over there. Also here's a nifty site for tire size comparisons http://www.mintylamb.co.uk/?page=tyre.htm

Hi poolboy, that does look very tidy, hopefully mine will look better after the winter when I will be spending all my free time improving it. I would post a photo, but don't seem to be able too.

I have managed to post some photo's in my gallery though.

    Re: New member

Big Smile  I've seldom been called tidy, but thanks a lot, curlyboy.  I'd like to take more credit for the tidiness, but the truth is that's the way the PO kept it. I've only had that car since August.

Now here's a picture of the 74 driver's engine that I've had for nearly 4 years.

Looks good to me. Tell me, are those mirrors typical of what you see in England ?

Over here we mostly see the bullet type on TR6's. You'll notice however that my 73 has the same type as your's.

    Re: New member

Hi poolboy, yes they are more usual here, the bullet type are mostly used by the "boy racer brigade" and being of a certain age( I get my old age pension in February 2010) I will stick with these. having said that I do enjoy the thrill of my TR, and it manages to keep up with average traffic speeds here, up to and above the legal 70mph limit or should that be

    Re: New member

Well both us "boys" are getting up there then. I'll be 64 in December.

But how old do you feel behind the wheel of that 6 ?

    Re: New member

I've been asked more than once if this is my second childhood, to which I reply "I've not finished the first one yet". I'll leave that attitude for "old people" as I have no intention of letting an old person get inside my head!
