Tongue Tied [:S] Damper pulley install

I recently discover that the damper pulley and washer could not be engaged with the shaft pin , as the pin was not out far enough to engage the washer after the pulley was installed.  Have I done something wrong?  The shaft has received the pulley all the way.  My solution was to bend the washer slightly to block the bolt similar to a earred lock washer on the crankshaft.

My only concern is will it loosen under load or spin off since the keyed shft is not keyed to the washer?

Dennis, you know that the crankshaft is allowed some fore and aft movement, limited by the Thrust Washers ?

I wonder if the TW's might be playing a part in this.

    Dennis-

Isn't the washer supposed to have a tab that engages the keyway? Not a slot for the key to fit in? If it had a slot it would be a tricky business to do the assembly and have everything just so so that when you torque the nut it doesn't bind on the tip of the key or force it back down the groove or dislodge it.

    Does this make sense?
