    Servo Front brakes 73MGB??

    Oz Cooper in another, Mini, Thread has indicated that it is Ok to servo  just the front brakes in what was a dual-circuit  Mini. Is it not on to do this with  a dual-circuit MGB?? With the incipient onset of senile decay I wouldn't mind if I could get by with a little less stress on the hip joint!!

     I know that some people have retrofitted later pedal assemblies complete with dual servo but  I think that there's a fair bit of drilling and hacking about involved.Fitting  a remote single-system servo would be easy but I wonder about balance/instability issues under heavy breaking conditions.                                              Severe criticism welcomed!!                  Cheers    - - - - -  steve

    Nutcase-

    Why not fit an extra servo for the rear brakes as well? This should balance things out nicely.This is the set-up on my 73 Europa and  at the time it was made it had the shortest stopping distance from 80 mph of any car Road and Track had ever tested!

    I like your thinking.

    I gotta tell ya that I would personally NEVER boost just one end of a system made to use equal master cylinder output pressure, although it's better to boost just the front than just the back! Perhaps OZ knows something about Minis that makes this a non-issue.

    Two remotely mounted servos works just fine. Every Rover 2000 sedan made from '68 on did this, and they had about the best brakes in the business for many years.

    On the third hand, these cars never impressed me as needing excessive pedal pressure. Is everything else in the system optimized?

    Thanks guys for the headsup.Icjutila provoked me into googling some lovely Chapman creations. Motorbill drills right in and asks if everything else in the system is optimised and the answer is of course NO. The Driving Assembly, part NoXXXX, that fits between the seat and the steering wheel is, after 50+ years of motoring, starting to wear out, bearing surfaces particularly!! Wonder what the medical equivalent of molyslip is??

    sorry 'bout that, steve.

    I do tend to carry that old Porter Cable with the 3/8ths Jacobs chuck with me everywhere I go...

    However, I'm right there with you. I've written several times to the manufacturer complaining about poor unit design in the knee and hip modules, but so far, no free upgrades have been brought to my attention. Let me know if you get word.

    What a wonderfull forum this is!! Several of my golfing friends do indeed have  modern replacement parts, Bill, but apparently nowhere near as good as OE. Mind you, come to think of it they now possess significant scrap metal value!

    Yeah, I've tried to install the Clu-Chron upgrade unit(s), but with no success, as they interfere with another, more crucial, longevity modification. Eventually I'm imagining it'll be titanium and Boddington's that will enable my further functionality. Geez! How morbid! Sorry.

    Ah yes! The mancunian medication, good local anasthaetic, from the neck up!!   Biyeck! takes me back a bit, it played, a not insignificant, role in my failure of first year Engineering, an awfull long time ago!! Didnt know it was available this side of the pond, I'l have to go looking for it. Of course if in my searching I was to find Flowers Keg I would consider myself truly in heaven  " href="BLOCKED SCRIPTinsertSmiley('Beer');">. This summer in the northwest has truly been a LBSC owners idea of heaven. I dont know if Washington and Oregon would agree but BC has had and still is enjoying, excellent driving weather.

    Steve 'm boy, this is me first hear of Flowers Keg. I take it it'd be worth my trouble to sample a bit. Tell me more, and where a thirsty mech might go to find it.
