Can anyone tell me what is needed and how easy it is to fit a servo to a 1987 Mini City. From photo's I have seen it looks like I need a new master cylinder as well as a bracket to convert the push rod from the brake pedal from vertical to horezontal. Part numbers would be good.

Hi Joseph,

The easy way to add a servo is with a remote unit that can be mounted anywhere! TT3949Z is the part number or the servo on it's own is a GSM125! the later cars had a servo and master all in one but are very exspensive to buy new (if you can even find one) S/H is always an option. Just remember a servo will only assist the braking and doesn't actually make your brakes any better it just means less effort is required in pressing the pedal.

Am I right in thinking to use a remote servo I would have to convert to an older sigle line braking system and if so will that be as good as the duel system currently on the car?

From what I have been hearing about the benifit I may decide to channel the cash in another direction.

You only need to servo assist the front brakes on a Mini! The servo kit TT3949 has a length of brake line included to allow you to fit it. The fitting is very straight forward…The pipe from the Master cylinder that feeds the front brake is removed from the master and installed in the servo, the line supplied the goes from the servo back to the master from were the first pipe was removed. The hardest part is finding somewhere to mount the servo!  Some of the works cars had them fitted inside the car in the passenger foot well!
