MGA NEW OWNER FROM SPAIN NEEDS YOUR HELP

Hello everybody. My name is Iñigo and I´m from Spain, I ´ve bought my first MGA recently and I would like to change the steering wheel. I´m looking for the original one, but I can´t.

I have seen at Moss page that the same steering wheel that I´m looking for appears but for MG TF.

My question is if it is suitable to install the Brookland Steering Wheel of MG TF in my MGA, or which could be a solution to instal this kind of steering wheels.

And if it´s not possible, where could I buy this original MGA steering wheel.

Thank You very much, and please aplologize my horrible english, I´m trying to improve it.

    iñigo.

    iñigo,

Don't worry about your english. Some folks from the U.S. who've written to this site have been far less articulate!

Our (U.S.) Moss catalog shows both normal and Brooklands steering wheels for both MGTF and MGA cars.

Part # 263-250 is the standard type steering wheel as delivered on new MGAs.

Part # 453-165 is the Brooklands type steering wheel which was a popular option.

None of the steering wheels designeed for any T-Series car is compatible with the MGA, due to the keyed splines on the T-Type.

I hope this answers your question. If not, repost and we'll do whatever we can.

Re: MGA NEW OWNER FROM SPAIN NEEDS YOUR HELP

Welcome Inigo. I just took a quick look at the Moss Europe web site and saw the problem, the original type steering wheel is not available. Your best chance to find one would be to post on the MG Enthusiast's board in their MGA area. There are a lot of British and European MGA owners that post there and one might well  have a spare wheel for you. http://www.mgcars.org.uk/   Two other options are the MG Experience Forum http://www.mgexperience.net/phorum/ or the British Car Forum http://www.britishcarforum.com/bcforum/ubbthreads.php/forum_summary. There's a good chance that someone reading these boards will have what you need.

You might want to check with some other MGA owners before you get an original or Brooklands wheel though, many drivers find the diameter of these wheels larger than is comfortable and opt for a slightly smaller diameter aftermarket wheel such as the Tourist Trophy or similar that are also sold through Moss.

Re: MGA NEW OWNER FROM SPAIN NEEDS YOUR HELP

    Welcome to the forum inigo.

As Bill posted, Moss US carries a really nice reproduction of the original MGA steering wheel under part number  263-250. It uses the original MGA centerpiece #263-110 fitted by 4 clips #263-200. It is shown here:

    http://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=29223

Moss Europe also carries the same wheel and associated parts at:

    http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=7981

They reference part number AHH6003 for the wheel.

Moss does sell a Brooklands design wheel that fits the MGA if you like this period four spoke look.

The Brooklands wheel with correct hub to fit the MGA is sold under part number 453-165 and can be seen at:

    http://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=29763

I hope this helps you out.

    Welcome, Inigo,

I know this is a Moss form, but you might price out:http://www.angloparts.com/en/catalogue/group/177?page=2; part #042 037. They are are in Belguim with outlets in Italy, France, Holland and Germany.  It may be less expensive that importing one from the UK.
