    Engine Mount 78B

Anyone know how to get the nut back on the driverside engine mount? I got the mounts bolted to the engine, and on the passenger side, not problem bolting to the frame. But on the drivers side the pinion goes right through the same frame bracket the engine mount does. The only way I can think of how to get the nut on the motor mount bolt is to remove the pinion, unless there is some kind of magical trick.

    chuck,

I haveee just finnished replacing the engine in my 77B recently.  When I did it, i left the mounts attached to the car and bolted the engine to the mounts once it was in the car.  2 bolts for each mount this way but much easier to line up and bolt down.

Although leaving the mounts in is probably the easiest, I had to removed mine as they needed to be replaced.  I ended up removing the pinion shaft to access the nut.  Getting the nuts back on is tons of fun as well.  Not much room for fingers or wrenches, but patience prevails.  Make sure to get the alignment tool (Moss# 453-622) if you have a '77, as you will need to make sure the pinion shaft is properly aligned before you put it back together (not sure this is necessary if you just remove/reinstall, but I replaced the rack, and it definitely needs to be aligned if you loosen/remove the rack from its mounts.)

    Good luck!

    Joel,

Many thanks. I've not had the time to get out and stare and gase at it like I find my self often doing,  because of work. It's just been hectic over the past few weeks. But I think I'm going to try and tackle it over the weekend.

    Thanks,

    Chuck

    chuck,

Hope it goes well for you this weekend.  We'll be here for you if you need further help.  When I replaced my engine, I had more trouble getting the rear mounts lined up than I did the front.

    good luck,

    joel
