    Fire Sale

This is my first post to this forum.  Two weeks ago the fire in Santa Barbara consumed my 1969 TR-6 that I bought in 1972. Fortunately our house and garage were saved.  God bless the fire fighters. This was a very long term project car and not running or insured, but had just been pushed outside to work on another project.

I still have some parts available that were in the garage and in very good to perfect shape:

4 Panasport wheels, never mounted, in original boxes. 6J x 15

One wool carpet set, tan, with underlayment, never installed, in original box.

2 Front fenders, original, stripped and repainted BRG.

2 Doors, original, also stripped and repainted BRG.

    Original AM radio

    many other small parts

The rest of the body is a total loss, but the engine block and cylinder head could be salvaged. The non-overdrive trans could be rebuilt, but I see the rear mounts have melted off, so there was a lot of heat there. The block was freshed with new rings about 10 years ago but only has a few hours on it. The cylinder head was brand new with new valves.  Carbs may be ok, all plastic is gone but the aluminum looks ok. Maybe the frame could be salvaged, but it saw a lot of heat.  Most of the aluminum parts have melted off, including the trailing arms.

As I am new to this, I haven't figured out how to post a picture yet.

I am willing to part with all this for any reasonable offer.  I do not want to part out the body/eng/trans... it is all or nothing. The parts in the gargage can go individually if anyone has a need for that stuff.  I will post here for two weeks and then it goes to E-Bay.

    Re: Fire Sale

Al. Really sorry to hear of your loss, but very glad that your house and shop survived.

It brings up a good point about insuring project cars. I had to have a meeting with my insurance company to determine whether project cars and accumulated bits should be covered by the home owner's policy, or would they need to have their own automobile insurance.

We came to the understanding that if after a fire it looked like there was a car, then it would need to be covered by an auto policy. That meant that piles of parts in boxes and on shelves would be covered by the home owner's fire policy. But anything that was on wheels, or looked like it had been had to have an auto policy.

All of my project cars with viable VIN numbers now have comprehensive policies with stated value on them. The cost is insignificant, running about $15-20 per year. It's a good idea for anyone who has a project car especially in areas where there are threats from fire, flood, earthquake, trees or theft.

I hope that you get a chance to pursue another TR6, or at least find homes for the parts you have.

So Sorry for your loss. I live in Ventura and have friends who were affected by the fire. Do you happen to have a dashboard and/or wheels?

    Al,

I'm so very sorry to hear of your loss, a '69 is a great year for tr6's. I'm interested in the carpet set. How much are you asking and can you ship to ga?

There are lots of good ebay deals lately on tr6's, maybe you'll get another soon.
