    Tacho

Hi. Have just bought a 1970 B. The tacho jumps from 0 to full scale when the ignition is turned on but the starter not yet engaged. It randomly jumps from side to side. After starting it jumps randomly around where it should be reading. Sometimes it flicks around 3 or 4 thousand RPM! Any ideas?

    Re: Tacho

I have the same problem with my Tr4a but have not corrected it.  If it is not the cable and associated distributor , the tach needs minor adjustment at a instrument shop.   I could not find   exactly what my problem was but  I played with mine on the bench and  could not find the problem.   The shop said they knew what the problem was.

You will probably get a better answer so let us know what you find out!

The tacho is positively charged.  Try wiping a static cloth on the face using circular motions, I can't remember is its clockwise or anti.  It worked for mr.

    Re: Tacho

The shop claimed replacing ( for $ 120 )  the tach needle mounting jewel solved the problem.  It works and looks great now. The tach face was  made to look new and according to the shop they cleaned it with diluted 409.  Incredible that cleaning made the discolored face look new .  Could this be possible?.  Would appreciate  comments about the new looking tach face.
