    '73 MGB Windshield

I need some help. I am replacing the seal between the windshield frame and teh body on my 1973 MGB. I have the windshield off and the old seal out. I am trying to put the new seal in with no success. I have tried to soap it and slide it in from the end and also tried to push it into the "T" slot with a tool. Still no luck. If anyone has an idea I am open to suggestions.

    Okay,

First, let me say I have not done this personally but I tucked it away expecting to try it. Let me know how it works. I have a 74 to work on and coincidentially enought the tip was for a 73.

Second, I want to give credit to who posted it. I don't know Penny but 'ED' replied it was a good idea. I like it wasn't adding a petroleum like noted so in theory it shouldn't hurt the seal

     Installing a New Windshield
Our Tech Tip this week is from Penny Ploughman.

After struggling with the soapy water method for easing the install of a new windshield to body seal on my 1973 MGB, I decided to try an all-vegetable cooking spray (in this case Mazola) and the seal slid right in! Remember never use a petroleum based product on rubber seals -- it makes them swell and deteriorate.

Ed. note: I also have used this a few times in the past when doing the rubber on side curtains and it really does work well.

Astroglide.  Depending on where you live you may not be able to find it - it's a "personal lubricant" and some people think they have the right to mandate what you can lubricate, and with what - but if you can find it, it's the best.

I'm getting ready to do the windshield to body seal on my '78 MGB. Is there any trick to cutting the ends to fit? Also, Moss says to use a sealant for a good seal. What sort of sealant is recommended?

    Your suggestions will be appreciated.

    Re: '73 MGB Windshield

I recently went thru this using soapy water, wd40 or anything else I could think of. I had about 4 hours in it before I ended up taking one of the side pillars off of the window frame and soaped up the seal. With two friends pushing and pulling it went in pretty easy. Put the pillar back on and had it complete in 1/2 and hour. Trying to feed the seal in through that small hole just didn't work for me.
