    Color Poll! You decide.

Well Hopefully I will be in primer at the end of the month on my '72 midget project. The original color was Aqua, and apparently this was the only year the color was used, and only on the midgets and MGBs. My other favorite would be mallard green. Any thoughts?

What color interior/top are you planning?

I remember seeing a non-original color scheme on an MGA years ago at Buttonwillow. It was fantastic. A really dark, high-gloss red merlot type of body color with a black/red interior trim and had custom chrome details. Very beautiful.

I prefer BRG.  (Maybe it is a little over done).  Mine is a 2002 Aston Martin BRG base/clear.  In low light it looks almost black, but in sunlight it is a deep BRG.

If I do not do my Bugeye in OEW, then it will be the same color.

I like BRG too. But I'm a traditionalist on colors. BRG was not available in '72, Mallard is close though. Damask Red mentioned in the earlier post would be nice as well. As far as interior and top, it depends on the color. Originally, the Agua was paired with a Navy interior. I would go with black if I went with the mallard.

    Re: Color Poll! You decide.

Somewhat of a coincedence.  My 72 B was originally aqua also.  I went back & forth on the color.  My wife at the time liked the aqua but I prefered BRG.  Never could come up with a perfect match for the aqua in urathane so went for the BRG.  I used the same early BRG as my dad's 67 BJ8 that I drove as a teen.  Figured I'll never be able to afford a big Heally so at least I have a nice MGB with the same color scheme.  I do have to confess that the BRG I used is an offset formula provided by PPG and was actually used in 69 by Subaru.  They called it forest green.  Bet they copied it from the British.  Imagine that!!

I like "Carmine Red"... with a black interior/top.  Hmmm, look at my MGB's picture.

    Re: Color Poll! You decide.

My '74 was originally BRG but someone painted it Black.  I've stuck with that and been migrating the interior from "Autumn Leaf" to Black as well.  Just seems to look good on the car.  Of course since my plates are "MG NOIR" there's no going back now :D

    Re: Color Poll! You decide.

I know that it was a standard color in the 1973-74 MGB palette (not sure about '72 or Midgets), but Damask Red is one of my favorites from that period - sounds like it will look great either way.

I had a '72 that was midnight blue and it was sweet, loved the color with the round wheel arches.

    Hey cjcharvet

Aqua blue and Iris blue are two of my faves, and to be honest with you when I first got my "B" I wasn't sure I liked the colour (glazier white) but now I have come to like it very much and if I were to paint it, I'd stick with the original colour. Have you seen Mallard Green on any LBC's does it suit the car?  Paint is a pretty definite decision.....Cheers .

     Ben

I am restoring my Bugeye and the origional color was Iris Blue. We can see the origional color in some small spots and it looks more purple than the color you used in the picturs on the net of your restoration. I like your color more than what I see on my car. Can you send me the paint code and manufactrer and other specs on the paint you used?

    CJ-

You reminded me about a car a friend had that was a 72 Midget. It was aqua with a black interior and those styled steel wheels they used to have.

I remember my initial reaction to the car was that I didn't like it but it really grew on me. It was different and actually  looked very good. Never got tired of it. Looked great on a sunny day. The paint held up very well over time  and red can deteriorate and oxidize.
