    Mg Midget smoking

I have a question. I have a 1973 1275 midget with 50K mileage. Car starts fine gets up to temp approx 70 on the dial. It drops to 65 when the thermo kicks in. It smokes (grey/blue) under acceleration (even minimal) until temp rises to 70 again. Is this rings or valve seals or...... All ideas would be helpful. Declan

    declan,

At first blush it sounds more like rings than guides. But, more info is needed. Does it continue to smoke for as long as you accellerate? or is it just a puff as you begin? How fresh is the oil? What grade and brand of oil is being used?

Hi, yeah the smoking continues under acceleration until temp is reached. I use any 20/50 I can get. Last oil change was about 2000 miles (including filter) I generaly top up each week. Last rebuild was 15 years ago

    Declan,

You say you top up each week. Hmm... What would you say your oil mileage was? And of course, how much is leakage as opposed to burn? This is sounding more and more like blow by (rings) all the time.
