Need a 1275 Gearbox core for my '67 Sprite....

    Hello all,

Anyone know of a 1275 gearbox core i can get ahold of (cheap, if that's possible)?  This '67 I picked up actually has a "smooth case" gearbox with it - the gearbox is trashed and i can't find very many parts for it anyway even if it were cost effective to repair.

I've contacted a local LBC transmission guy (he's all out of 'em) and said he'd give me a fresh rebuild for a decent price if i can find a core.  I'll be putting in a new clutch kit and slave cylinder myself.

Not a terrific day so far since i just also learned my head needs about $400 worth of work - (and we haven't looked at the block yet-yikes!!)  [:'(]

If anyone knows of an old ribbed-caged gearbox for a 1275 sprite that could use a good home and a rebuild for sale, please give me a shout:  lallocco@ci.springfield.or.us  541.729.9990.

    thanks,

    "Growing-Poor" Lou  (Springfield, OR)  Smile

EBAY has two ribbed gear boxes right now.

Are you sure that the 67 had a smooth case? I thought it was ribbed, but I reserve the right to be wrong.

Hey Davey, yeah, what came atttached to my engine is definitely a smooth case - i doubt whoever put that one in was paying attention to the fact the car was a 1275, apparently, this gearbox is wrong for my 1275 car (as I'm told anyway).  - I saw both of those gearboxes on ebay, one is way too expensive for what is described, and the other is for a 1098 motor. Hopefully, one of the kind, fellow-LBC-lover in this forum may have a solution for me :-)

Ciao and Happy Father's Day to all you Dad's out there!!

    Lou:

Unless you've found what you need I have two ribcase transmissions.  One is out of my 68 midget and the other is out of a 65 midget that was converted to a 1275cc engine.  The one out of the 68 is usable but has a small amount of noise.  I ran it until I upgraded to the Datsun 5 speed.  The transmission out of the 65 is usable only for a core as the first gear is very bad.  You can email me at gztracker@suddenlink.net.

thanks a million Jim - I found (and have installed) a Silver Seal rib case gearbox (it's gorgeous!) ....  was able to "crank" her today - great compression!  She's just waiting for carbs to come back and this little baby will come back from the dead!

I've got some pics posted here if you like to peek...

    Thanks again -
