'64 Midget- need distance between bumper bolts to attach tow bar

    Hello MkII Midget owners,

I will be picking up our new project next weekend : a 1964 Midget that I am hoping to pull 200 miles using a tow bar.

If anyone can give me the distance between the front bumper mounting bolts ( bolts # 29 on the Moss parts diagram ), I can make sure

my tow bar will fit ( its only adjustable from about 28" to 32"). Unfortunately, the people who have the car  won't be at the cottage where

    it's parked until  then either.

    Thanks,

    Bob

I can give you the B model but not midget. Mount bolts are at 18" c/c on inside bolts and 24" c/c on the outside bolts. Hope that helps. This is on a '77 but the frame rails should be the same in all B's and I would guess yours is less by about 4" being a midget. But it's only a guess.

    Thanks srtoad,

This 18" distance between the bolts sticking out of the valence is exactly what I needed.

Now I can drill up piece of angle to fit across them and bolt to the tow bar - a lot easier to do now than "in the field."

... and so the adventure of keeping yet another MG out of the recycle crusher begins again.

    regards ,Bob

The distance on my 68 Sprite is actually 18.25 inches.

Good luck with the tow, but a flatbed would be better.

If you absolutely must flat tow this car, PLEASE remove the driveshaft.

Thanks Motorbill66, I guess there's no point in messing up the tranny/clutch/rear end by leaving the drive shaft in if I don't have to.

    Update- the tow went fine!

I made a bracket of 2" angle  with slotted holes at 18.25" centers to fit what I hoped were 1/2" bolts (they are) to fit my tow bar. It fit perfectly.

I only thing is now I have to do it all over again - they also threw in a '64 Sprite parts car.

    thanks again, Bob
