    Engine temp?

    Here's an esoteric question, perhaps.

My newly rebuilt Sprite 1275 engine burns some oil during the first 5 to 7 miles or so before it reaches operating temperature under load. As far as break in miles, she's at about 2500 now, and they're all under the direction of Dr. Motorbill.

Today I noticed that after gassing up after only 3 miles from home, it didn't burn oil when I got back on the road. So here's the question, does the short time that it takes me to fill her up allow the higher, "under load" heat to permeate the engine since the engine and water pump are still, or is it just my imagination?

Also, is this indicative of valve guides that were honed too large?

I told you it was esoteric!

On their death bed, nobody ever said, "Gee I wish I'd spent more time at work!"
